Syllabus
In Art and Advanced Art, students will explore the foundations of visual art through hands-on projects and creative expression. They will learn the elements and principles of design, experiment with various media including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art, and study influential artists and cultural art traditions. Students will develop critical thinking and observational skills while creating original artworks and reflecting on their creative process. The curriculum aligns with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and encourages personal growth, collaboration, and appreciation for the arts.
Grading Criteria
Student grades will be based on the following components:
- Art Projects (25%) – Assessed on creativity, effort, craftsmanship, and application of techniques and concepts.
- Sketchbook/Process Work (25%) – Includes planning, practice, and reflection activities.
- Participation & Behavior (50%) – Engagement in class discussions, studio work, and respectful collaboration.
All students who take art have a $20 fee that will be paid through MySchoolBucks.com.
End of Year Trip Eligibility
Students receiving any of the following during the school year will not be allowed to attend any non-
academic activities or campus events:

1. The student cannot be placed in DAEP within the current semester.
2. The student cannot be assigned 5 total days of ISS for the school year or 3 or more within the
current semester.
3. The student cannot be suspended within the current semester.
4. The student’s current semester grade average is below 70 in any subject area
