Teacher Bio

I am Ms. Gonzalez  and I am excited to teach art for a second year here at Fairmont Junior High! I am a recent graduate of the University of Houston where I received my bachelors of Art and Design. I am excited to help students discover their creativity and their inner artists!

In Art and Advanced Art, students will explore the foundations of visual art through hands-on projects and creative expression. They will learn the elements and principles of design, experiment with various media including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art, and study influential artists and cultural art traditions. Students will develop critical thinking and observational skills while creating original artworks and reflecting on their creative process. The curriculum aligns with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and encourages personal growth, collaboration, and appreciation for the arts.

Grading Criteria
Student grades will be based on the following components:

  • Art Projects (50%) – Assessed on creativity, effort, craftsmanship, and application of techniques and concepts.
  • Sketchbook/Process Work (25%) – Includes planning, practice, and reflection activities.
  • Participation & Behavior (25%) – Engagement in class discussions, studio work, and respectful collaboration.

All students who take art have a $20 fee that will be paid through My School Bucks.
